EBRD ready to provide assistance in construction of Mateševo-Andrijevica section

After the feasibility study is carried out, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will render decision on the co-financing of Mateševo- Andrijevica highway section.

President of this institution, Suma Chakrabarti, has announced that they are ready to co-finance the future concessionaire of the Airports of Montenegro.

ERBD supports the efforts of the Government put in the improvement of the environment for business and investment. However, grey economy has to be reduced. That also requires tax reduction, since Mr Chakrabarti considers taxes to be high.

“Energy, transport, infrastructure and private sector – those are the areas in which we still want to invest. We are glad that we are able to help Montenegro to make its private sector become more capable of dealing with competition, and thus integrate itself faster”, said Chakrabarti.

First section of the highway nears completion. Preparation for the construction of other sections are underway.

“Our bank has already provided assistance in the preparation of the preliminary design of two highway sections, as well as in carrying out the feasibility study for the entire highway”, added Mr Chakrabarti.

Considering that ERBD invests a lot in the road infrastructure development, Mr Chakrabarti reveals that Airports of Montenegro are also in focus.

This is how Mr Chakrabarti comments on the grey economy and ways of reducing it.

“Whilst talking to the business representatives, I’ve been told that high taxes are great burden for the companies. They have also mentioned the Law on Labor and the necessity for upgrading skills. That’s what you should focus on in order to prevent negative effects of grey economy”, said Mr Chakrabarti.
