Education union calls for 10% pay rise for education staff

Zvonko Pavićević

Education Trade union is expecting an invitation from Ministry of Education for a meeting in order to start negotiating proposal for a civil collective agreement by means of which they ask for 10% increase in salaries for education staff.

As president of trade union organization, Mr Zvonko Pavićević, said to Pobjeda, they would definitely not give up on their objective. They believe it’s high time that salaries increased.

“In accordance with the agreement reached in July, our negotiating teams drafted new branch collective agreement, its amendments, particularly the part thereof referring to new coefficients. We’ve introduced new coefficients for every profession”, said Mr Pavićević.

He says that 10% increase they request isn’t linear and applies to all employees.

“We have already referred the amended agreement to Ministry of Education and we are expecting invitation for a meeting next week. We’ll see how it all goes”, pointed out Mr Pavićević.

He thinks it’s high time that they got a pay rise.

“For a profession that is very important for a society, salaries are very low and that’s not correct. We are going to push for higher salaries and we are not going to stop until we succeed”, said Mr Pavićević.

There are many different jobs and professions in kindergartens and special schools and, therefore, every coefficient has to be carefully calculated and adjusted.

Agreement trade union representatives reach with the Ministry of Education must be given green light by the Ministry of Finance.
