Montenegro’s capital still has a lot going for it even though tourists tend to describe it as lifeless and boring, says Dušan Drakić, a tour guide through Podgorica.

There are also some very handy low cost carriers than link Podgorica with several European countries, but most tourists just head straight from the airport to the coast, i.e. the Boka Bay.

“Podgorica has never been a popular tourism destination. However, as tourism courses change, tourists’ needs become different as well. Tourist numbers in the capital continue to grow over the past two years and this city is perfect for those wanting to stay no more than 3-4 days and explore Montenegro. Tourists usually describe it as nice, small, atypical and cheap,” Drakić told CdM.

“If you’re looking for some perfect pics, simply go to the Šipčanik wine cellar, stunning Lake Skadar, small local wineries near the lake or Nijagara falls,” suggests Drakić.

The Old Town has many noteworthy parts along with Mirko’s downtown and St. Đorđe’s Church.

“The Monastery of Ostrog tours have been quite popular although the monastery itself is located outside the capital. The archaeological localities, such as Duklja, Medun and Doljani may highlight another dimension of the city, before Slovenians’ arrival,” said Drakić.

According to him, local hospitality and professionalism are key to growing number of sightseers. “It has always been a challenge for me and sth I’m continuously focused on, in order to be able to improve my skills.”
