European Parliament passed the Report on WB

The European Parliament adopted last night the Report on recommendations for the EU enlargement to the Western Balkans, WB, proposed by the rapporteur, Mr Tonino Picula. Beside the start of negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia, the Report suggests faster closure of the negotiation chapters with Montenegro and Serbia.

“Great news for the end of the plenary sitting – the European Parliament has just passed my Report on the recommendations for the EU enlargement to the Western Balkans, with 532 votes in favor of it and 70 against it,“ Mr Picula tweeted.

The Report, which has served as a preparation for the Zagreb Summit in May, highlights the commitment of the EU to further enlargement to the WB countries, which have been expected to keep up with the reforms in order to be able to join the EU asap.

Being the EU rapporteur for the WB, Mr Picula explained that the Report sent a strong message of the EP for the enlargement process, while the candidate countries have been backed for the full membership, along with a message that it’s their final goal, reported N1 portal.

The EU institutions were urged to engage more in the region, especially in the fight against the coronavirus, the promotion of reconciliation and gradual integration of the countries of the region into the European policies and membership.
