EU’s commitment to Montenegro’s accession is firm and unquestionable

At the first joint session of the Committee on European Integration and the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants of the Parliament of Montenegro, the European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, today delivered messages from the strategy titled “A credible enlargement perspective for and enhanced EU engagement with the Western Balkans” .

The European Commissioner emphasised that this was a historic moment for Montenegro, the countries of the Western Balkans, the region and Europe.

“A few days ago, the European Commission presented a Strategy that confirms that the EU’s commitment to Montenegro’s accession is firm and unquestionable,” he said, adding that the Western Balkans has a common heritage and history and that the future is defined by common opportunities and challenges.

He estimated that the Strategy for the Western Balkans drafted a roadmap for Montenegro to be ready for membership by 2025, and that this path depends exclusively on the objective merits and results of Montenegro.
