Extradition requests against Nikic and 15 others pending

Since the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Justice has submitted 24 extradition requests to foreign countries. In most cases, there have been no decisions on the requests yet.

“Seven requests have been approved, one has been partly approved, whereas 16 requests are being processed,” the ministry told Dnevne Novine.

In the same period, no request for the extradition of Montenegrin citizens has been received, the ministry added.

The extradition requests that have recently become topical include the case of Ananije Nikic. Upon the red notice issued by NCB Interpol Podgorica, Nikic is wanted because of taking part in planning terrorist attacks on the day of parliamentary elections on 16 October last year.

He was arrested on 3 April in the Rostov region. Only a few days later, Montenegro’s Ministry of Justice sent full translated paperwork to the Russian authorities on the basis of which the extradition was requested.

They have not responded yet. In the meantime Nikic has been released from extradition custody.
