The world’s largest travel guide Lonely Planet presented the donkey farm in Martinici as one of the three attractions of Danilovgrad Municipality in its latest edition for Montenegro.

The farm owner Darko Saveljic, said in a statement that, beside the Ostrog Monastery and the three-day festival Rijekom Zetom, the edition included the Martinici donkey farm.

“According to visits to the farm, the number of foreign tourists in Montenegro is being increased year in year out,” Saveljic said.

He said that more than 29,000 tourists visited the farm in less than two years, as well as numerous media outlets, both local and foreign ones.

“In November last year, the world heard a story from our farm thanks to leading global media. The story was announced at the time of the elections in the United States (USA). At one point, on the search engine www.yahoo.com our donkeys were side by side with the story on US presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton,” Saveljic said.

“If you happen to be around Danilovgrad on a Saturday, head out to this wonderful farm, established as a sanctuary for abused and neglected donkeys. They also produce (and sell) donkey milk, said to be incredibly therapeutic. It’s a wonderful, non-exploitative place for animal lovers and families; the donkeys are used to small children. It’s best to ring ahead before visiting, and though it’s free to enter, visitors should take appropriate treats (apples, carrots, dry bread) for the star attractions,” Lonely Planet writes.
