Five people detained after attempted murder of a Kavac clan member

Arresting Lješnjak

Five people have been officially suspected of creating a criminal organisation, which planned and prepared murder of Spuz prisoner Radojica Zekovic. Zekovic is a godfather of the Kavac criminal gang member Vladimir Roganovic, who is currently in custody in Belgrade.

Dnevne Novine newspaper learns that after Dejan Deletic, as the direct perpetrator of murder attempt, was arrested on Saturday, Podgorica police arrested Aleksandar Bojovic and Stefan Balevic. Milan Ljesnjak and Djordjije Bozovic turned themselves in on Monday, accompanied by their attorney Zoran Piperovic.

Arresting Božović

What is common to all five of them is the fact that they were security guards of Stevan Stamatovic, one of the prominent members of the so-called Skaljari clan and informal co-owner of the Beagle club in Podgorica. They are suspected of creating a criminal organisation and illegal possession of weapons and explosive devices. Deletic and Ljesnjak have also been charged with attempted aggravated murder.

They tried to plant an explosive device underneath Zekovic’s car in Zabjelo, Podgorica. Zekovic’s assassination was prevented on Saturday, after citizens reported to the police that two masked men were planting a suspicious looking device underneath Zekovic’s car. The police deactivated the device and Deletic was arrested. Ljesnjak managed to escape, but he turned himself in later.

The authorities sent Zekovic back to the Spuz prison citing security reasons.

Sources close to the investigation claim that the group was working for Stevan Stamatovic and Milic Sakovic, closely associated to Skaljari criminal clan.

Police officers raided several locations in Podgorica and Berane, including Stamatovic’s house in the Malo Brdo neighbourhood.

According to unofficial information, Stamatovic did not attend the search. It is suspected that after the arrest of his security guards he hid somewhere, although he has not been wanted by the authorities.
