PHOTO: Wanted in Montenegro: These are Shirokov and Popov

Interpol’s notices on Eduard Shirokov (45) and Vladimir Popov (36) were posted on Interpol’s website on Wednesday. The two Russian citizens are wanted by Montenegrin authorities over charges of creating a criminal organisation, attempt of terrorism and preparing acts against the Constitutional order and security of Montenegro committed through incitement.

Interpol also posted notices on two Serbian citizens, Nemanja Ristic (43) from Belgrade and Predrag Bogicevic (47) from Kragujevac, suspected of attempt of terrorism and establishment of criminal organisation.

“If you have any information, please contact your national or local police or General Secretariat of Interpol,” the red notice says. It also says that the persons are wanted by the judicial authorities of Montenegro for prosecution.

Whereas the photos of Ristic and Bogicevic, members of extremist organisations “Zavetnici” (Pledgers) and “Ravnogorski pokret” (Ravna Gora Movement), were earlier published in the media, photos of Shirokov and Popov have been publically presented for the first time. The Special Prosecutor’s Office has a reasonable doubt that two Russian nationals are organisers of the terrorist attempt that was supposed to be carried out on 16 October, after the end of voting in parliamentary elections in Montenegro.

(Non) cooperation

Serbian investigators were informed at the beginning of December on issuing the red notice against Ristic and Bogicevic, but they have not been arrested yet.

The prosecutor’s office’s investigation order against the two Serbian nationals says that they, “along with DF politicians gathered at the rally, were supposed to cause clashes with police officers and forcefully enter the Parliament. They were supposed to remain there for at least 48 hours and declare the election victory of DF and other opposition parties”.

Montenegrin authorities have informed the colleagues from Russia on the investigation results. According to them, an investigation was launched against two of their citizens who should be questioned. However, they have not received any reply yet.

Ristic has recently argued that there was no warrant against him and that he moves freely in his country. He also said that “everything would be clearer when he makes an announcement from Moscow”.

The Montenegrin prosecutor’s office believes that Shirokov and Popov organised criminal group and paid €200,000 to Aleksandar Sindjelic to “take care about all the details”. He was in charge of finding people who were willing to attack the Montenegrin police, shoot at people and kill the then PM Milo Djukanovic.
