From January this year, around 1,470 migrants and refugees

A total of 14,317 migrants and refugees have applied for the international protection from our country for 12 years. Seventy-seven applications have been granted.

As the representative of the Ministry of the Interior said, 31 persons have acquired the status of a refugee, 27 – additional protection, four subsidiary protections have been granted, and 15 persons have acquired the asylum status. Majority of the applications for international protection have been issued to the persons from Syria – 29.

Last year, 3,104 applications for the international protection were submitted. Fourteen of them were granted, 10 of them acquired the asylum status and four subsidiary protections were granted.

Five persons from Iran got the asylum status, four persons from Syria and one person from Yemen, Cuba and Russia.

Subsidiary protections have been issued to three persons from Ghana and one person from Belarus.

Most applications for international protection were submitted in 2013, (3,554), but none was granted.

Also, ten years ago, seven applications for the international protection were submitted. A year later, in 2010, there were nine but none of them was granted.

Number of applications increased drastically in 2012, when there were 1,529 of them. One additional protection was granted for a person from Iraq, and one asylum status for a person from Yemen.

Two years later, in 2014, the number of international protections increased to 2,312.

Four years ago, 14 asylum status applications were granted as well as two additional protections from the persons from Ukraine.

In 2016 number of applications fell to 335 – 12 asylum status applications and 11 additional protections.

Two years ago, in 2017, number of application increased again. There was a total of 849 applications. Seven additional protections were granted for two persons from Yemen, Afghanistan and Belarus and one person from Ghana. One asylum status application was granted to a person from Lebanon.

As representatives of the Ministry of Interior said, 4,753 migrants and refugees were registered in our country last year. In the first three months of this year, the number amounts 1,470.

Seventy-two persons were caught in illegal border crossing from January to March.

Migrations, as a global phenomenon, have hit Montenegro too.

“We’re undertaking activities in order to give human and efficient response to the challenges that migrations bring”, said the representatives of the Ministry of the Interior.

From January to 25 April, there have been 745 asylum applications.
