Government supports the idea of Institute for Sustainable Technologies in the Balkans

The Government of Montenegro has decided to officially support the initiative for the establishment of International Institute for Sustainable Technologies in the Balkans. It would have the Science for Peace mission.

“This project, unique in the region, would significantly impact economic development, improving living standards and reducing unemployment. It would also represent a certain type of ‘industrialisation’ of our region based on sustainable technologies,” said Minister of Science Sanja Damjanovic said.

The project would have two main objectives.

“The first objective would be to promote cooperation between science, technology and industry. It would also represent a platform for educating talented young people and engineers on the basis of knowledge and technology transfers from European centres such as CERN and others. Another important goal is to bring together people from different countries in the region, not only scientists but also engineers, as well as administration. Such a project would represent yet another successful example of CERN’s model,” she explained.

The government of Montenegro is the first among the countries of the region which officially supports this initiative.

“It is open for cooperation regardless of where the institute would be located. Montenegro also expresses its readiness to be a candidate to host the platform, taking into account our geographical position, near the border with five countries in the region, but also multi-ethnic and multi-religious harmony and tolerance that has always been present in our country,” said minister Damjanovic at the press conference.
