Han: All parties should engage in Working group

Johanes Han

European Commissionaire for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, Johannes Hahn, said in the interview for “Pobjeda” that all political parties should actively engage in the work of the Working group which will deal with amendments to the electoral legislation.

“We are watching closely all the events related to parliamentary Working group and we are looking forward to its formation. This ad hoc parliamentary structure should start working as soon as possible since it has very important and very ambitious tasks to tackle, including the comprehensive election reform, issue of political intervention in the Council of National public broadcasting, elimination of challenges related to the work of State Election Commission and Anti-corruption Agency, finding solutions for the election of the members of Judicial Council as well as finding solutions for the questions of local elections”, said Hahn.

Speaking of European integration, Hahn said that Western Balkans had never been on a higher position in the agenda.

“The EU confirmed that its door for Western Balkans is open by adopting the Strategy for Western Balkans. Now, Montenegro should use this moment”, said Hahn.

According to him, Montenegro has made a significant progress in the accession negotiation process.

“Two chapters remain to be open. Chapter 27 is in the Council of the EU. As far as the chapter 8 is concerned, Montenegro is working on fulfilling requirements for opening it. However, in this phase it’s early to say when this Chapter might be open. Progress that Montenegro makes in the are of the rule of law will keep determining the overall tempo of pre-accession negotiations. We expect some concrete results of the activities undertaken in the domain of corruption and fight against organized crime. There has been some progress during summer but a lot more needs to be done”, said Hahn.
