Holiday protests or political bluffing?

Democratic Front (DF) is planning to start a series of major street rallies in the middle of December. Until then, they DF members will wait for other opposition parties, NGOs and independent intellectuals to join them.

According to the unofficial information, DF management still hasn’t got concrete plans about the protests, but they are trying to come up with a new formula, something more contemporary and different.

Organizing a system of concentric circles would be something completely different. Also, many protests in Podgorica, not only one, would considerably fuel tensions, increase traffic jams and create the feeling that something big is taking place.

However, no opposition member wanted to talk about this, although Mr Milan Knežević, leader of Democratic People’s Party, said a couple of days ago that “informal” talks with some opposition parties had started.

On the other side, Mr Andrija Mandić, as serious politician, said during parliamentary session at the end of October, that protests required a lot of determination and courage and added that he believed they would be able to oust the regime.

“DF expresses willingness to call on people to take to the streets and oust this regime with the use of nation’s forceŽ”, said Mr Mandić.

Although Mr Milan Knežević said that those protests should be protests of the entire opposition, it is evident that DF relies on its voters. Everybody knows that protests organized by the “Resist” movement failed when DF failed to support them, although there has been no official confirmation. Also, important question is: How to motivate citizens to take to the streets?

Although the goal is the same, it is not very likely that the protest will be mass.

URA refuses to go with the Front, others remain silent

URA Civil Movement will not support the protests announced by DF, said the leader of this party, Mr Dritan Abazović.

Once again he called on the opposition members to boycott the Parliament and parliamentary elections scheduled for next year.

Other parties remained silent on the DF’s calls for protests.
