Idea of Momir Bulatovic as a president is not serious

Montenegro is looking ahead to presidential and local elections in many municipalities next year. Irregular parliamentary elections are less likely to be held, because there are no reasons for that, said professor of Faculty of Political Sciences of University of Belgrade Milos Besic.

He said that the boycott is endangering the political stability, and that the interest of all is for the opposition to return to the Parliament. Besic said that the opposition seems to be more consistent in this boycott than it was before. However, this is not good for the system, he said.

He said that the elections would be the most logical solution, but they would have to remove opposition’s suspicions, which will not happen unless the West pressures DPS.

„Still, I do not expect that type of pressure. Simply said, DPS is the ruling party, and as such is guarantee of the Western course of the country”, Besic said.

Besic believes that the membership in NATO will not influence the political situation in Montenegro, because the country is divided on leadership and opposition.

„That type of divide reflects on all questions, and NATO is just one of them”, Besic said.

Besic said that Democrats took the leading role in opposition block.

“There is no doubt that they are now seen as new leaders of opposition”, Besic said.

According to him, DF had good results at the elections, but they must preserve in order to keep that level of support.

He said that Democrats are a young party, and voters respond well to that. He believes Democrats will be the main adversary of DPS in the upcoming campaigns, and Serbian opposition will try to fight them as well. The presidential elections will present a test of their strength.

“They must have a presidential candidate. Their leader, Aleksa Becic, must be that candidate”, Besic said.

DF must also take part in the presidential elections if they wish to keep their position. Besic said it was the possibility of Momir Bulatovic being a candidate is not serious.

“Those who make such statements are not familiar with Bulatovic’s situation. His candidacy would make no sense”, Besic said.

He said that the united opposition would represent bigger danger for DPS. In the situation that DPS candidate is Milo Djukanovic, the challenge for the opposition would be great.
