Import of cigarettes increased by 39%

Import of cigarettes increased by 39% in September, since the Government reduced the excise rate from 40 to 30 EUR per thousand packs.

Return of the excise made the cigarettes cheaper by 20, 30 and 40 cents.

Reduction of excise reflected on the market immediately and Customs Administration issued greater number of excise stamps in September.

Representatives of Customs Administration didn’t want to say whether cigarette smuggling fell down because they don’t analyse the market and the impact changes of excise have on the sale of cigarettes.
