VIDEO: Another step towards NATO: Luxembourg ratified the protocol

Luxembourg Parliament ratified the Protocol on the Accession of Montenegro to NATO. Majority of 55 out of 60 MPs supported the accession.

Luxembourg is the seventeenth country to support the accession of Montenegro to the alliance.

The Speaker of Parliament Ivan Brajovic attended the vote. He previously met his Luxembourgish counterpart Mars di Bartolomeo, as well as senior officials of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

The officials agreed that the ratification process has more than a good pace, which means that Montenegro is getting closer to lasting stability.

“Euro-Atlantic integration, including both the opening of negotiations chapters and ratifying the protocol, certificates are clear pro-Western orientation of Montenegro towards the values of the countries of highly developed democracy,” said Brajovic.

According to him, ratification and meetings in the Parliament of Luxembourg were an opportunity to discuss increased cooperation between our parliaments.

“I Invited my host to visit Montenegro. I expect the visit to be organised in the next few months and look forward to meeting high-ranking officials from Luxembourg,” said Brajovic.

Mars di Bartolomeo said he was satisfied with the support for Montenegro’s accession to NATO, particularly emphasising the similarity of the two tiny states.

He also mentioned the significant presence of Montenegrin immigrants in Luxembourg and their active contribution to society as a whole.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee and Treasurer of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Marc Angel also said that our country was well on its way towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and that the protocol ratification was another step towards the alliance.

“We are closely following Montenegro’s path towards the EU and we will help you a lot in that process. You will be a NATO member soon, you are close to the European Union… We are a small continent and in the era of globalisation there is no other way, particularly for small countries, but to work together. This is the experience of our country – Luxembourg. We are pleased to see another small country joining our family,” he said.

Ratification of the protocol in the Belgian parliament is expected on Thursday.
