Serbian tabloids spreading fake news about Đukanović: Sensationalism over facts

Tabloids Alo and Kurir keep on publishing fake news about Mr Milo Đukanović, irrespective of yesterday’s announcement of the Serbian media spreading disinformation about Montenegro’s President’s state condition.

Lurid headlines saw the light in Alo and Kurir this morning

“Dramatic: Urgently relocated due to pneumonia – a battle in Paris to save Milo’s life”, is one of the main headlines at the front page of the Alo tabloid

“MILO MIRACULOUSLY LIVE: Đukanović was two seconds away from DEATH! Here is where he has been treated,” is the Kurir’s headline.

Mr Đukanović’s office yesterday sent a press release stating the information about the health condition of the President of Montenegro published in some Serbian media to be mere speculation and disinformation.

“The President of Montenegro is in good health condition, performing his regular duties in full capacity,” the announcement says.

However, Alo today writes: “Montenegrin President with life-threatening pneumonia was secretly taken to Paris by plane. Đukanović is in a lot of pain, his blood pressure is high, and the blood results are catastrophic.”

And Kurir even has more details from “reliable sources”: “Everything was carried in secrecy and the Montenegrin public did not know that their president was seriously ill, nor that he was treated abroad.”

Montenegro and Mr Đukanović have been targeted by the Serbian tabloids for years, with Alo and Kurir being the leader in terms of the amount of fake news published.

One could hardly believe that these tabloids missed yesterday’s announcement of Mr Đukanović’s office, but it seems that sensationalism and spreading false news are more important than the facts, all being done with the aim to discredit Montenegro and its president.
