Kacin: USA took responsibility for stability in the Western Balkans

New US administration sent a message that it would take responsibility for peace, stability, and prosperity in Europe, the EU and the Western Balkans, permanent representative of Slovenia to NATO Jelko Kacin told Pobjeda.

Commenting on the US VP Mike Pence’s visit to Montenegro, he said that it was perfectly timed message sent to our continent, the world and some entities that are not considered factors of stability in the region.

Kacin said that US VP visited Montenegro for several reasons.

He demonstrated US support to the whole region and to some countries that responded with the adequate presence of their highest representatives at the regional summit held in Montenegro. Since the Adriatic Charter Summit was attended by heads of states and governments, it can be concluded that the countries in the region are interested in improving and deepening cooperation with the United States, says Kacin.

According to him, Pence believes that the region deserves US support and help in its stabilisation, democratisation and Euro-Atlantic integration.

“He has made it clear that sovereign states have to decide for themselves how much they want to cooperate with the USA and what kind of cooperation they want to achieve. On the other hand, it is in the interest of the United States that the countries in the region participate fully in the development of transport and energy infrastructure and trade. It should not be forgotten that this is a visit related to the meeting of the Adriatic Charter member states, which will be chaired next year by Montenegro. The summit was attended by the observer states as well, including Slovenia,” says Kacin.

According to him, the United States says they also support the EU accession.
