Katnić: I’m ready to resign, these are my conditions

“At the extended session of the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office, at which the announced amendments to the Law on the State Prosecutor’s Office and the Law on the Special State Prosecutor’s Office were discussed, I stated that I was ready to resign, in case the applicants of the initiative for these laws give it up and also undertake not to submit it until the expiration of the term of office of this parliamentary composition”, says the Chief Special Prosecutor, Mr Milivoje Katnić.

In his statement submitted to the media, he says he had an official conversation with Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić, who informed him that, in case of resignation, the Democrats and URA MPs would give up the proposal to change the law on the State Prosecutor’s Office and the Law on the Special State Prosecutor’s Office.

Mr Katnić points out that the existing laws have passed all procedures and are harmonized with the best European standards, and their solutions are among the best legal solutions in today’s Europe.

“Notwithstanding all the foregoing, I am prepared to resign as Chief Special Prosecutor”, Mr Katnić points out, among other things.

Brussels warned and “politically slapped” the new parliamentary majority, which, without consulting European partners, decided to start amending prosecutorial laws, in order to, among other things, shut down the Special State Prosecutor’s Office and form the Prosecutor’s Office against Organized Crime and Corruption. This behaviour of the new parliamentary majority could lead to a blockade of negotiations with the EU.
