The Basic Court in Podgorica agreed to release the President of the Democratic People’s Party and one of the leaders of the Democratic Front, Mr. Milan Knezevic, before the due date.

Mr. Knezevic was sentenced to four months in prison because he physically attacked policeman Miljan Markovic outside the building of the Parliament of Montenegro on October 17, 2015.

“This decision was made by the Chamber having in mind the circumstances surrounding the personality of the prisoner, his earlier life, his conduct during the serving of the sentence.. as well as other circumstances that indicate whether the purpose of punishment has been achieved and whether the prisoner has improved so that he can basically be expected to be well behaved once free, and in particular, that he will not commit a new criminal offense while on parole”, the court said on his “conditional” release.

As explained by the judges, when deciding, they appreciated the report of the ZIKS, which stated Mr. Knezevic was working and performing his tasks in a proper and responsible manner, that he cooperated in the process of corrective treatment and fully complied with the House Rules at ZIKS.
