Kommersant: Russia linked to eavesdropping affair relating to Milan Roćen

Milan Roćen

Eavesdropping on famous politicians and officers has caused scandal in Serbia directly involving Russia. Russia is also suspected of being involved into eavesdropping on the former Serbia and Montenegro Ambassador to Moscow, Mr Milan Roćen, writes Kommersant.

Kommersant states that the opposition had accused Serbian president, Mr Aleksandar Vučić, of revealing state secrets unlawfully. The government said that president had right to do so. However, experts say that he should have respected the procedure.

Kommersant says that Mr Vučić made another “interesting statement” and said that former ambassador to Moscow, Mr Milan Roćen, had been secretly eavesdropped by order of the government of Serbia.

Daily newspaper reminds that audio-recordings and phone call transcripts refer to 2005 and 2006 but they are published by In4s portal, having the reputation of ardent opponent of Montenegrin authorities.

“Following the leaks, many people in Montenegro and Serbia said that eavesdropping was carried out by special Russian intelligence services. However, experts concluded that the transcripts of the conversation had been made by somebody whose mother tongue was not Russian”, writes Kommersant.

In addition, writes Kommersant, comments on the portal leave no doubt that the main objective of leaks was to discredit Montenegrin referendum on independence.”.
