Krivokapić’s government knowingly violates international agreement and endangers Montenegro’s interests

Igor Lukšić

The extent to which the current Government is ready for revenge is proven by the absurd situation in which it refuses to support Mr Igor Lukšić, who has already been elected through an international agreement, but is already lobbying for the new term-of-office of the current Secretary General from Albania, Pobjeda reports.

At the 10th annual meeting of the Summit of Heads of States and Governments of the Southeast European Cooperation Process, held on 23 April 2018 near Kranj, a decision was made to appoint Ms Majlinda Brega as Secretary General of the Council for a term from 2019 to 2021, and Mr Lukšić as RCC Secretary General with a term from 2022 to 2024. The decisions are confirmed by the Declaration, which is an international agreement whose decisions must be respected.

As a diplomatic source explains to Pobjeda, the former Albanian Minister of European Integration Majlinda Bregu had political ambitions in her native Albania that did not materialize, so she started lobbying first with Albanian and then the Montenegrin Government to extend her term for another 3 years. Her lobbying is going so well that she received support from Montenegro’s Deputy PM Dritan Abazović.

This distinguished Secretary General position would bring great benefits to Montenegro, especially given the phase of its accession to the EU. Apparently, the new Montenegrin Government will lobby for other people’s interests, rather than for its own ones, just to deal with the previous government. Pobjeda’s source explains that this scandal could still cost the new Government too much, because it is more than clear that it is only declaratively in favour of the principles that were triumphantly announced after the August elections. The Montenegrin Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not want to comment on this issue because it will decide on it at the session of this regional initiative scheduled for May.
