Latvia strongly supports Montenegro’s European path

Latvia strongly supports Montenegro’s European path. We improve our cooperation by opening Consulate, it was concluded at the meeting between minister of foreign affairs, Mr Srđan Darmanović, and head of Latvian diplomacy, Mr  Edgars Rinkēvičs. Chief of Montenegrin diplomacy opened the Consulate of Montenegro in Riga.

It was stated that Montenegro and Latvia have friendly relations, strengthened by NATO membership, as well as joint European values.

Mr Darmanović said that Montenegro and Latvia shared similarities, especially reflected in the historical fight for independence and preservation of national identity.

“Today we are strengthening political dialogue at highest level and we’re looking for the possibilities for the improvement of cooperation in the area of economy, education and traffic”, said head of Montenegrin diplomacy.

Mr Rinkēvičs said that Latvia strongly supported enlargement policy and opening the last chapter in the EU negotiations. He pointed out that progress was visible.

Interlocutors exchanged opinions on the current situation in the region and at global level, as well as challenges in countering hybrid threats.

During his visit to Latvia, Mr Darmanović opened Consulate of Montenegro in Riga.

Mr Darmanović said that the first diplomatic representation of Montenegro in Latvia would contribute to strengthening relations between the two countries.

“Activities of the Consulate will be aimed at strengthening cultural ties and tourism cooperation with the aim of promoting our cultures, art and tradition”, said head of Montenegrin diplomacy.

Mr Talis Linkaits, Latvia’s Minister of Transport, delivered an address at the ceremony and said that Montenegro and Latvia were two small and proud nations which shared similar history and foreign policy commitment.

Mr Darmanović visited military base Adaji and talked with our soldiers deployed within in the Enhanced presence NATO mission.
