Latvia will strongly support Montenegro’s reform processes

The Republic of Latvia will strongly support Montenegro’s reform efforts, was the key message conveyed in the official meetings held by the delegation of the Committee on International relations and Emigrants during its visit to this country.

During its two-day visit to Riga, delegation of the Committee, composed of the president, Mr Andrija Nikolić, and one of its members, Mr Luiđ Škrelja, met with the vice president of the Parliament of Latvia, presidents of the Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, President of the Committee on Defense, Internal Affairs and Prevention of Corruption, as well as with parliamentary secretaries of Latvia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defense.

“Stronger political, expert and financial presence of the EU in the region is of vital importance for the integration perspective of Montenegro and Western Balkans”, said Mr Andrija Nikolić.

He said that common values and commitment to peace and global security should contribute to further development of connections between Republic of Latvia and Montenegro.

Vice president of the Parliament of Latvia, Ms Ineta Libina-Regnere, said that Latvia wanted to see Montenegro in the EU as soon as possible.

It was said during the meeting with the host, president of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Parliament of Latvia, Mr Rihards Kols, that Montenegro and Latvia had built strong friendship.

It was stated that parliamentary diplomacy could contribute to even further cooperation between the two countries.

Latvian side devoted special attention to the subject of potential establishment of direct air line between Riga and Tivat.
