Ljumovic and Mitrovic’s resignations confirmed

Montenegrin Parliament has confirmed resignations of the minister of culture Janko Ljumovic and member of the RTCG Council Ivan Mitrovic.

Ljumovic resigned on 4 October for moral reasons.

“The fact that I signed two public announcements of the Faculty of Drama and a group of professors of the University of Montenegro (UCG) related the decision of the Steering Committee on the dismissal of the UCG chancellor lead to my decision to resign,” Ljumovic said in the explanation of his resignation.

He said that he had signed the public announcements as an associate professor at the UCG, aware of the fact that this signature had additional weight.

The Agency for the Prevention of Corruption initiated a misdemeanour procedure against RTCG Council member Mitrovic due to conflict of interest.

“Respecting the decision of the Agency, I am resigning as an act of personal responsibility, because it would not be morally justified for me to hold the public post of a Council member while the proceedings are conducted against me,” Mitrovic said in the explanation of his resignation.

Mitrovic pointed out that in his case, there was no political background in the conduct of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption.
