Marinko Banovic remanded in 72 hour custody

Podgorica resident Marinko Banovic (41) has been remanded in 72 hour custody, CdM reports. Police found two snipers with telescopic sights and silencers as well as a certain amount of ammunition in his car.

Banovic is charged with the criminal offense of illegal possession of weapons and explosive substances.

Djuro Vujovic (34) was in the car with Banovic. He escaped after the police stopped the vehicle.

Police Directorate specified that police officers stopped a Land Rover car in the Zagoric neighbourhood at 11pm last night. Banovic and Vujovic were in the vehicle.

Vujovic immediately jumped from the car and ran away.

“The officers managed to stop the vehicle and found a Heckler&Koch G3 sniper rifle with a telescopic sight and a silencer and a sniper rifle of unknown brand also with a telescopic sight and a silencer, as well as corresponding ammunition, a number of cartridge cases and other objects,” the police said.

Officers seized the vehicle that will be sent to the Forensic Centre for analysis as well as the weapons, ammunition, and other seized items. The analysis is to show whether they were used or are intended to be used in committing a criminal offense.

Banovic is known to the police. He is brother of Mirko Banovic, commander of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit. He works as a bodyguard of businessman Veselin Barovic.
