Markovic: Better collection of state revenues

The message that the state will collect every cent that belongs to it encouraged the competent authorities, businessmen and citizens to actively work in this direction, leading to better revenue collection, prime minister Dusko Markovic and directors of Tax Administration Miomir M. Mugosa, Customs Administration Vladan Jokovic and Inspection Directorate Bozidar Vuksanovic agreed at a meeting held on Friday.

The preliminary results achieved in March and the first quarter of 2017 were presented at the meeting. They showed improvement in payment collection in certain segments of up to 30% compared to the same period last year.

PM said he was pleased with the fact that collection of about €166m tax debt was expected through tax reschedule. He added that a significant share of the sum was reported to the Tax Administration by the biggest tax debtors.

Markovic pointed out that the state must deal with those who are on debtor lists and did not applied for rescheduling. When it comes to debtors who applied for the rescheduling, he said that delays in instalment payments would not be tolerated and that their bank accounts would be frozen if they fail to repay their liabilities on time.

Markovic also said that there will be no tolerance either for private or state-owned companies or local governments.

The directors said that intense activities on fighting the gray economy had begun.

Checks have revealed significant number of those who work illegally and thus generate income, while receiving some sort of social benefits from the state.

This confirmed the government’s commitment to redefine social welfare policy in order to €115m social budget to allocate in a fairer way and grant benefits to those who really need it.

The meeting was also attended by deputy prime ministers Zoran Pazin and Milutin Simovic, ministers of tourism and economy Pavle Radulovic and Dragica Sekulic, and director general for tax and customs system at the Ministry of Finance Novo Radovic.

New meeting is to be held in a month.
