Markovic and the IMF agree – 2017 was better than good

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) states that this year has been very successful for Montenegrin fiscal policy and there are all assumptions that the next year will be successful as well.

Prime minister Dusko Markovic met the IMF delegation led by the head of the IMF Mission to Montenegro, Martin Petri, on Wednesday. Petri said that the country had made a huge difference in just a year.

“A year ago, the outlook was not the same as it is now. For just one year, you have made a huge difference. I congratulate the government of Montenegro on successfully implemented difficult measures. The prospect for 2018 is good if the envisaged fiscal measures are implemented,” he added.

Petri has identified several areas where, according to the IMF, certain challenges might arise, such as the pension system, public administration, local government finance and banking sector reforms.
