Markovic and Mesi agreed on cooperation in valorising Skadar Lake

Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania Senida Mesi agreed that there were no outstanding issues between the two neighbouring and friendly countries. The officials added that the cooperation was developing in a spirit of good faith and understanding and that the two governments were ready to carry out a series of concrete activities in order to contribute to further improvement of relations aimed at better quality of life of people of both countries. Among other things, the activities include the valorisation of Skadar Lake.

At a meeting held on the sidelines of the international conference “Region after Four Years of the Berlin Process” organised by the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro in Becici. Markovic and Mesi agreed on concrete steps to overcome challenges on the watercourse of the Bojana border river and expressed readiness to launch joint activities on valorisation primarily the resources of Skadar Lake and the Bojana river.

Markovic said that Montenegro fully supported the European integration of the Republic of Albania and was ready to make a concrete contribution to the expert and other assistance in that regard.

“We want the Republic of Albania to start negotiations for membership in the European Union as soon as possible,” Markovic said.

Mesi expressed her government’s interest in Montenegrin experience in valorising tourism resources and attracting foreign investors in the region, saying that Montenegro had made significant progress here compared to Albania.
