Marković: Transformation of Montenegro offers chances for investments in diaspora

Political and economic environment in Montenegro offers real and tangible chances for further development, investments of diaspora into profitable projects which can contribute to even higher economic growth rates, said President of the Government of Montenegro, Mr Duško Marković, during the constitutive meeting of the Council on Cooperation with Diaspora.

Talking about the vision of cooperation between homeland and diaspora, Mr Marković said that it extended beyond money transfers to the families, although he didn’t want to downplay the importance of it.

He stressed considerable economic growth and said that foreign direct investments had made considerable contribution to such result.

“I would be very happy to hear that more successful people from our country expanded their businesses across the world”, said Mr Marković.

He called the attention of local administrations to the preparation of development projects while urging them to be cooperative and open for the ideas of diaspora.

“There’s enough money for valuable business ideas and I guarantee that the Government will commit to encourage any such idea”, said Mr Marković.

Mr Marković pointed out that our country was a huge construction site and that Montenegro today looked nothing like the Montenegro several years ago.

That transformation creates space for higher presence of emigrants. He recalled considerable support diaspora had provided to the renewal of independence in 2006.

Mr Marković thanked the members of the Council for the devotion they had been showing in the past three years.

“It was not only our statutory duty but also our moral duty. We owe that to all generations of Montenegrin emigrants and their descendants spread all over Europe and the world”, concluded Mr Marković.
