Marković: We are stepping up the fight against corruption

Next year, Montenegro will keep working  with even more intensity and power on meeting the objectives of the EU agenda, said the President of the Government of Montenegro, Duško Marković, in Brussels today, during the meeting with the European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn.

PM pointed out that the ambition of Montenegro was to open Chapter 8 – Competition Policy – and that we had been working devotedly and provided internal readiness for closing several chapters.

Marković and Hahn agreed that a huge progress had been made in the field of rule of law. Marković particularly emphasized fight against corruption and organized crime, where, as he said, we had achieved good results.

The meeting was also dedicated to the progress made in the area of the freedom of media. The emphasis was put on the issue of the protection of journalists and media property. Set of media laws that are supposed to improve the media scene are currently being prepared. Marković said that Montenegro was constantly in the position for promoting dialogue and stability and it would continue in that direction. Commissioner Hahn commended Montenegro for its role in the region.
