Middle Ages ideology won’t go down well with people in Montenegro

Miodrag Vuković

Only politically ignorant mind can believe that church ultimatum and church pressure can settle civic issues in a democratic Europe. Messages coming from the representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church can only touch manipulated, seduced and ignorant people, who have fallen under the influence of unseen propaganda. Nobody has ever stood behind theological requests, not even in Tehran, in the Islamic world of theocratic powers. And how can anybody expect that ideology of the middle ages will constitute political system of a state in the heart of Europe, says in the interview for Dnevne novine, Mr Miodrag Vuković, member of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS).

Commenting on the situation Montenegro has been faced with since 27 December last year, when the Law on Freedom of Religion was adopted, Mr Vuković says that we have some sort of “combination of conflicts Montenegro has been living with for almost 200 years”.

“As it has been said many times, this is all about the state and whether Montenegro is going to be on its own or it is going to be just a tag. Ancestors of those who are marching now left the nation without country in 1918. That Podgorica Assembly was carried out in Montenegro”, Mr Vuković points out.

According to him, creation of the idea it was based on emerged from “Načetanije” in 1844.

“It was followed by bombing affairs and culminated in the deceitful Podgorica Assembly and the illegitimate and unlawful but successful attack on the foundations of the many-century country”, Mr Vuković reminds.

That’s when we were left without home and became Zetska banovina.

“There has been insistence that we become 27th election unit, part of the great state project of one nation, that we agree to be a corner of some great state again, or a federal unit of a national federation, at the best case”, Mr Vuković points out.

Mr Vuković firmly believes that Montenegro has got enough of democratic capacity to get out of this situation successfully.

Asked if the Serbian Orthodox Church is preparing the “army” for pursuing others’ interests. Mr Vuković says that he can’t even think of the dark minds out there, that are ready to intensify religious and political pressure on democratic institutions of Montenegro to such an extent that they could provoke tragedy.

“Podgorica resembles Tehran in a religious and political sense. It can’t be a ticket to a brighter future. It’s actually a safe way to civic and state tragedy, human and state decay. Therefore, for many reasons, the present situation requires wisdom, collective and individual responsibility of everyone”, Mr Vuković warns.

He is certain that the Law in only a motive, but that the reasons for anti-democratic and anti-Montenegrin homogenization are much wider.

Mr Vuković declines to elaborate further on the political, media and intellectual logistics from Belgrade and orthodox center.

Mr Vuković emphasizes that whoever dreams about carrying out projects by war games, is “playing a dangerous game with Montenegro and everyone in Montenegro”.

PILGRIMAGES OF OPPOSITION LEADERS

Commenting in the actions of government opponents, Mr Vuković points out that “Montenegrin political opposition is unfortunately not authentic and is not very convincing in political terms”.

“The majority of them are openly anti-Montenegrin. Travelling circus performers from DF have divided: one part in the USA, courting demo-Christian structures, and other part sends messages to Moscow”, Mr Vuković points out.

TRICOLOR

Asked to comment on the tricolors drawn all over the residential buildings, streets and bridges, Mr Vuković says that it is a serious, carefully-planned propaganda, refreshed with a great amount of manipulation.

“We stated long time ago that Montenegrins are violent. Throughout the history, they used heart, emotions. Unfortunately, the history of mankind is packed with the examples of catastrophic abuse of the emotions”, Mr Vuković points out.

Nobody, he adds, has ever managed to deal with the repercussions of the abuse of emotions using reason,
