The headquarters of criminal groups from Montenegro are in the countries of the region, said the Secretary of the National Security Council of Montenegro, Veselin Veljovic.
“Criminal groups from Montenegro are connected with the military, paramilitary and criminal structures of certain regional countries, and they are very often in close ties with the political establishment of these countries”, Secretary Veljovic said for Al Jazeera.
Speaking in a TV show titled Context, Mr. Veljovic commented on the frequent showdowns of organized crime groups in Montenegro and pointed out that these groups are closely related to “foreign structures aiming to destabilize the institutions of this country”.
Secretary Veljovic did not wish to disclose which regional countries he means, but would note that local criminal groups receive instructions elsewhere for their conduct on the territory of Montenegro.
