Montenegrin policy on Taiwan hasn’t changed

Chinese embassy in Podgorica yesterday stated that Montenegro has always been supporting the one-China policy and that they were convinced it wouldn’t allow the officials to visit Taiwan and develop official relations with Taiwan government. Ever.

When Dnevne Novine daily asked about the Embassy’s official position regarding the recent visit of some Montenegrin party members to Taiwan (a state with whom Montenegro hasn’t established diplomatic relations), the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Montenegro told that the United Nations Assembly Resolution 2758, adopted on Oct. 25, 1971, clearly pointed out that there has been only one China in the world and Taiwan’s been an inalienable part of the Chinese territory, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole of China.

According to the Chinese Embassy, the one-China policy represents China’s key precondition and political basis for developing and cherishing friendly relations with countries all over the world. They also reminded of established diplomatic relations with Montenegro since 2006.
