Montenegro 2017 progress report important, Raonić

Boris Raonić

The Enlargement Strategy for the Western Balkans, presented in February 2018, provides precise guidelines for the Montenegrin government in terms of its path towards progress and issues to be solved. It also clearly depicts Brussel’s interest in political, economic and social events in Montenegro, reckons head of the Civic Alliance, Boris Raonić.

On the other hand, the country’s progress report will probably be more-less the same as in previous years. “I expect slight progress but also serious challenges in important areas. We have contributed a lot just as many other NGOs. It’s therefore important to speed up the integration process so that by 2025 we become the EU member state,” Raonić told Pobjeda daily.

Mr Raonić added once the Progress Report reveals the key issues, the government needs to solve them urgently: “All fuss about previous progress reports lasted for several days and thus we failed to solve issues which are continuously repeating year by year,” concluded Raonić.

Some of the topics encompassed by the European Commission’s (EC) Progress Report are: protection and safety of journalists, fight against organized crime, as well as the position of chief negotiator Andrija Pejović who resigned last month, after the Agency for Prevention of Corruption revealed he violated the law while performing his duties.
