Montenegro – Bloomberg’s first choice

Impressive results achieved in all areas of tourism, especially revenues generated last year and the great start of 2020, are the key indicators that Montenegro is an extremely attractive destination for high-end tourists, it was conclusion of the yesterday’s press conference which was attended by Secretary of State for tourism, Mr Damir Davidović and director of the National Tourist Organization, Mrs Željka Radak-Kukavičić.

Talking about recent key developments in the branch, Mr Davidović said that such great indicators should contribute to the excellent result this year too. He said we should all be proud of the results.

“We are talking about 2,57 million guests in all forms of accommodation and 14,07 million registered overnights”, said Mr Davidović.

Mr Davidović reminded that in the first nine months all parameters showing number of tourist and overnights exceeded the ones from 2018.

“What we are particularly proud of is the fact that almost €9,6 million of residence tax has been collected. That’s the indicator of fight against grey economy”, added Mr Davidović.

Her also touched on the data showing that around 49 new hotels were opened last year. According to the announcements, first five-star facilities of collective accommodation in the north of our country will be finished in two or three years.

Mr Davidović said that number of tourists coming from strong markets had double digit growth rates last year.

“Another important thing is that for the very first time this weekend we are going to be partner country of one of the biggest tourism trade fairs in Europe – active tourism trade fair in Stuttgart”, said Mr Davidović.

Mrs Radak-Kukavičić agreed that 2019 had been a record year for Montenegro.

“And this year started with excellent results. For a New Year’s Eve, we had more than 60.000 visitors”, said Mrs Radak-Kukavičić.

Mrs Radak-Kukavićić stressed overall purpose revenues related to tourism and made up of residence and tourist tax and membership contribution of tourism companies.

“Montenegro is increasingly promoting its offer on distant markets”, said NTO director.

“At the end of last year we contacted major global media houses. After so many years, Montenegro might be set to have international campaign. That would be very important for us. Through special series programs we could contribute to the results in pre and post season as we’ll get the chance to value our authentic products on the most developed and strongest markets”, said Mr Davidović.

Mr Davidović thinks it is very important for our economy and tourism institutions that our state had found its place on the list of 20 most popular destinations recommended by the American Bloomberg.

“Given the fact that it’s one of the most powerful media houses in the world, I think that means that results we achieved have been recognized”, said Mr Davidfović.

Mrs Radak-Kukavičić said that she was glad that our country had entered the new year with awards.

“Apart from Bloomberg, China Travel Agent magazine has chosen Montenegro as the most popular specific niche destination in 2019”, said Mrs Radak-Kukavićić.
