Montenegro soon to become member of BIS

Montenegrin membership of the Bank for International Settlement (BIS) is to be expected in the forthcoming middle –term period, it was stated in the meeting of the Governor of the Central Bank of Montenegro, Mr Radoje Žugić with the governor of German Bundesbank and President of BIS Board of Directors, Mr Jens Weidmann

As representatives of the Central bank of Montenegro said, Mr Žugić attended the annual general meeting in Basel, held on 29 and 30 June, and discussed the support provided to Montenegro regarding the membership with Mr Weidmann.

Annual Report was presented in the meeting. Governors of central banks of the most developed world economies discussed the challenges in the banking sector and enhancement of international cooperation.

BIS is the oldest international financial institution, founded in 1930 and headquartered in Switzerland. It’s known as “banks for central banks” and its role is the improvement of international monetary and financial cooperation and mediation in financial transaction among central banks.
