Montenegro to enhance economic cooperation with Bulgaria

Sa sastanka

Montenegro and Bulgaria maintain traditional friendly relations and intense contacts at all levels. Strong foundations based on such relations need to be used for opening new areas in economic cooperation, said the Vice-President of the Government for Economic Policy and Financial system, Mr Milutin Simović, and Minister of Energy of Bulgaria, Ms Temenuzhka Petkova.

Both states are ready to work even more on strengthening economic and trade cooperation, especially in the area of tourism, agriculture, energy and transport.

Mr Simović informed our guest about the projects Montenegro had implemented in the energy sector, as well as about the projects that were in the preparation phase. He said that Montenegro has established a stable legislative framework which is completely harmonized with the EU legislative framework.

Mr Simović thanked Bulgaria for the support it was providing to Montenegro in the negotiation process.

Ms Petkova said that EU enlargement wasn’t just in the interest of Montenegro but in the best interests of the entire region, Bulgaria and the EU. She congratulated Montenegro on the achieved results and confirmed that Bulgaria would keep encouraging Montenegro and its EU accession.

She pointed out that her country wanted to find the best model of cooperation with Montenegro in the area of energy, given the enormous potentials of both states and the fact that Montenegro is becoming an important energy hub in the region, while Bulgaria is becoming important energy exporter.
