More guests in hotels, but noise is still a great problem

According to the most recent data, hotels in Montenegro had 390.000 more guests, some 80.000 more than in the same period last year. This confirms that tourism sector is showing an upward trend. Employees in the hotel industry deserve gratitude for everything they do in order to improve their activities, said the Secretary of State, Mr Damir Davidović.

Mr Davidović took part in the Tourism and Hospitality Association Board of the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro which examined the results achieved in this sector from January to April, implemented activities and challenges this season is faced with. Moreover, “Domaći ukusi” project has been presented.

Speaking about the achieved results, Board Secretary, Ms Sanja Marković, said that quantity indicators were on the rise in 2019 too. There has been an increase in the number of tourists in the first three months of 2019 (38,2%) as well as in the number of overnights ( 22,4

According to the data collected by the Central Bank of Montenegro, revenues from foreign tourists amounted around €47 million, which is 7,9% increase in comparison to the same period last year.

Mr Damir Davidović expressed his satisfaction with the results.

He pointed out that hoteliers were much more disciplined in checking-in, collection of residence taxes, which means that they had been following messages of the Board .

Challenges that tourism sector is faced with are the subject of discussion on the Tourism Council.

“These challenges are less present now than in the previous years. However, there’s room for improvement and I don’t see any reason not to do so”, said Mr Davidović.

“Domaći ukusi” project is going to be in the focus of the Chamber of Commerce, this Board, NTO, with the aim of stringer connection of Montenegrin food producers and tourism sector.

President of the Board, Mr Dragan Purko Ivančević, said that this Board contributed to faster elimination of business barriers in this sector. Speaking of the “Domaći ukusi” project, Mr Ivančević said that it was result of permanent devotion of the Board and the Chamber to the development of agriculture.

“This way, we are making sure that our tourist product really is MADE IN MONTENEGRO”, said Mr Ivančević.

As for the traffic jams, Mr Ivančević said that works on the construction of the boulevard from Jaz to Tivat and the third lane from Budva to Bar would begin in autumn. That will have a positive effect on the traffic flow.

“Noise is still a very serious problem. It’s unclear why the installation of noise limiters hasn’t started yet”, said Mr Ivančević.

Mr Davidović confirmed that there weren’t any legal restrictions on the installation of limiters and announced that the coordination authority in charge would personalize the responsibility for the omissions in the tourism sector.

However, noise limiters will not necessarily solve this problem.

Mr Valdimir Bujičić, Secretary of the Secretariat for the Development of Entrepreneurship, public utility affairs and transport of the Municipality of Kotor talked with Mr Rajko Malović, Assistant Director of the Public Enterprise for coastal zone management, about the dilemmas regarding issue of approvals for provision of services in the bathing areas on the private property.

Mr Ivančević suggested this Coordination authority of the Council of Tourism dealt with this issue.

As Mr Malović said, 1100 locations have been offered for lease. All leaseholders will be able to prepare and open bathing areas in due time.

Coastal Zone Management approved of many actions aimed at selection of waste and beach  cleaning.

Montenegro is developing new offers and amenities. This year, 30 new products have been assisted by €800.000.

“Our country is among eight congress-tourism destinations”, said Ms Radak-Kukavičić, Director of NTO. ”

Members of the Council of Tourism have brought up the question of the improvement of technical standards at Montenegrin airports. Technical equipment and visual component, as well as dress-code of the employees should be put in the focus. The greatest problem is the fact that Montenegrin airports do not provide entrance to the port building, and that problem should be addresses immediately

Mr Nebojša Krstajić, pointed out the improvements made in the last couple of weeks- passenger terminal 2 in Tivat for example.
