Moscow will keep trying to jeopardize the Government in Montenegro

Podgorica

In December of 2015, Montenegro decided to join NATO and, therefore, it categorically rejected two years of Russian endeavors to to provide Montenegrin port where they could sail and repair their military ships. Russia then started another strategy: enhancing political and ethnic divisions in order to destabilize Montenegro and prevent its further western integration, reports the Analysis published by the Foreign Policies Research Institute.

The study signed by Vesko Garčević, Reuf Bajrović, and Richard Kramar, says that, according to the Kremlin’s scenario, pro-Russian Government would come to power and turn the Montenegrin Euro-Atlantic journey over.

“In order to stop this twist of the western path of Montenegro, the USA and their NATO allies, must work on deepening engagement with Montenegro.  Without that, the West won’t be ready to confront destabilizing efforts of Russia”, it’s said in the published document.

Once the Kremlin realizes that its influence in the region is becoming weaker, then Russia becomes a destabilizing force which was particularly noticeable in Montenegro. The West plays the most important role here. Its political, military and economic engagement with Montenegro helps to keep Montenegro on the right path.
