Đukanović and Reeker: The USA’s presence is necessary for the future of the region

President of Montenegro, Mr Milo Đukanović, met in Bratislava today with Mr Philip Reeker, acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs.

They acknowledged great level of bilateral relations and expressed common interest that in the improvement of economic ties in the next stage of cooperation. Primary objective is the improvement of investment climate and creation of the environment that will attract more American investments.

Mr Reeker acclaimed the results that Montenegro had achieved in the integration process and reforms.

“What you have done so far, and what has been backed by the USA, is obvious”, said Mr Reeker.

Montenegro is NATO member now and that’s the legacy for the future and the guarantee of stability of Montenegro and the region.

Mr Đukanović and Mr Reeker focused on the situation in the region and its European and Euro-Atlantic perspective.

President Đukanović said once again that integration of the region was the foundation of its stability and that Western Balkans, taken outside the context of European and Euro-Atlantic perspective, remained abandoned and risky. Montenegro stays committed to promoting its democratic and economic development. The focus is primarily stability of the region and finding solution to open questions. Europeanization of the region is of crucial importance.

In order to ensure brighter future of the region, Mr Đukanović and Mr Reeker agreed that strong presence of the USA was required.
