New regulations aimed at eliminating unfair competition in taxi transport

Taxi drivers will henceforth be obliged to carry with them their taxi ID, contract of employment as well as tax certificate stating that all taxes and contributions have been paid. This was stipulated in the Draft Law on the Amendments to the Law on Road Transport.

“The main reason for the amendments is more accurate standardization of taxi transport, with special emphasis on the suppression of grey economy and unfair competition in this area”, said the Director-General of the Directorate for Road Transport, Mr Dalibor Milošević.

Draft Law stipulates that a taxi driver must have all the aforementioned documents. This way, unfair competition will be eliminated.

“Having in mind the global problem that comes with the development of new technologies, we have identified the need for defining dispatch centers providing mediation in taxi transport. We want licensed taxi drivers to providers taxi services and that’s it”, explained Mr Milošević.

According to him, limo service (renting vehicles with driver) is another phenomenon recognized as unfair competition for taxi transport.

“We decided to regulate this type of transport by Draft Law. These measures will have a strong impact on the reduction of grey economy and unfair competition in the public transport. We expect visible results in the first year following the implementation”, said Mr Milošević.
