NGOs should encourage reform, not freeze negotiation

Mrs. Djurovic commented as former Minister of European Integration

Threatening  to freeze important negotiations wouldn’t be good for any country in the region, nor is it good for Montenegro, said former Minister of European Integration Gordana Djurovic.

Now professor at the Faculty of Economics, Mrs. was commenting on the initiative of four local NGO leaders who asked the EU to freeze negotiations with Montenegro when she stressed such a thing is unheard of anywhere in the region – especially seven days before the official European Commission’s report.

“NGOs should encourage government reforms, not call for freezing of negotiations”, said the former Minister of European Integration.

She explained the initiative was made and delivered to the EU much earlier, and that the timing of its publication has to do with the upcoming elections as well as publication of the annual progress report.

“While these things are all legitimate and permissible, the political scene should not be stirred before the elections, but rather, reform should be encouraged”, Mrs. Djurovic concluded.
