Nurković: We must all respect Montenegro

Osman Nurković

I firmly believe that Metropolitanate and the government will start talks on the Law on Freedom of Religion, said in the interview for Pobjeda, Mr Osman Nurković, vice-president of the Bosniak party.

“The Government is willing to do that, just like it did with other religious communities registered in Montenegro”, Mr Nurković said.

The Parliament voted for the adoption of the Law on Freedom of Religion. What is your opinion about the events that followed the adoption?

NURKOVIĆ: Bosniak party has been calling on the dialogue from the very beginning. We believe compromise and agreement are a way to go. Montenegro is an independent state and has institutions. I think we must all show the respect for this country because we don’t have another one.

Everyone has right to love Montenegro or not to love it. But we must all respect it. I welcome the call for easing tensions and I am deeply convinced that Montenegro has knowledge, will and understanding to resolve similar problems and misunderstanding through dialogue.

Do you expect agreement or compromise will be reached through dialogue?

NURKOVIĆ: I am sure citizens have already heard of the calls for the dialogue made by Mr Marković and Mr Pažin. I firmly believe that will happen and that the country will conclude an agreement with the Metropolitanate.

What’s your comment on the failure of the activities of the Committee on Electoral Legislation? Can we expect resumption of that dialogue

NURKOVIĆ: Amendments to the election legislation are something the parliament majority has been for from the very beginning. We all want to have the best possible solutions, especially in the area of election process. Bosniak party wants everybody to make contribution to greater transparency of the elections in Montenegro. Unfortunately, seems like the opposition didn’t want this job to be finished.

Bosniak party Congress, which was supposed to be held in July, was postponed. When will it be held?

NURKOVIĆ: It was inter-party deal. We are already working on the preparation of the next congress which is planned to take place in the first half of 2020. It will be our chance to present to lay out nee program targets, new young people who will show that Bosniak party and stable political option.

Will Mr Rafet Husović run for the president of the party again?

NURKOVIĆ: I believe it’s very early to make projections. But Mr Husović has given a special mark and recognition to our party. His vision of the BP, as modern party, results in the fact that BP has stable electoral body, with an upward trend tendencies.

Governing coalition functions well

New parliamentary elections are approaching. How will BP go out? In coalition with DPS or independently?

NURKOVIĆ: Montenegro has been an independent country since 2006. Over the past 15 years, the coalition produced great results. We are full-fledged NATO member and leader in the region. BP is on an upward trend. We are preparing for the election cycle, and authorities will render final decision on the way we are going to go out on elections.

How are relations with coalition partners going?

NURKOVIĆ: The coalition is functioning well. We are connected with the joint future.
