Organ transplant will be possible without families’ consent

The Parliament of Montenegro adopted the amendments to the Transplantation of Human Organ Law for purposes of treatment which say that organ donation can be performed without the consent of a family, writes Dan daily.

Health Minister Kenan Hrapović noted during the parliamentary debate on the proposed act that the amendments would allow adults to give a written consent for organ transplant to people in need for potentially life-saving transplant.

“They will also be able to give a written statement refusing this procedure, and there will be a possibility of taking an organ from a deceased person who did not provided neither a written consent nor a statement opposing this procedure, based on the consent given by a member of the immediate family,” Mr Hrapovic added.

The Minister also said the law prescribes keeping records of all consents for organ transplant, as well as statements denying organ transplant and all people who donated their organs. This measure will, according to him, prevent any breach of the law.
