Parents refusing their children to receive the MMR vaccine or having children with autism disorders say that fines up to €2,000, prescribed by the Ministry of Health to protect the population from infectious diseases, will not force them to have their children vaccinated, as the Public Health Institute (IJZ) does not guarantee the safety of the vaccines, Dan writes.

Director of the NGO Nase Sunce (Our Sun) Milka Scepanovic told Dan that there was a growing number of misdemeanour charges against parents refusing to vaccinate children, but that they would not allow their children’s health to be endangered.

Scepanovic points out that the IJZ announced that Montenegro was at risk of measles outbreak because of the low MMR vaccination rate.

According to Scepanovic, parents are not against vaccination, but they require the authorities to guarantee that their children will be safe after receiving the vaccine. She says that representatives of the competent institutions only say the vaccine itself is regular, but no one says it does not cause autism disorders.

She also cites a research of the Keele University published in the Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and Biology which provides the strongest indication that aluminium which the vaccine contains plays a role in autism spectrum disorder.
