Persona non grata: Miodrag Vukovic deported from Russia

MP for the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Miodrag Vukovic was detained on Sunday night at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport for allegedly being “persona non grata” in Russia, CdM learns. He received a decision on expulsion from Russian security officers and he was deported to Montenegro on Monday morning.

In a phone conversation Vukovic told CdM that Moscow was not his final destination, but that he was in transit on his way to Minsk where he was supposed to attend the Parliamentary Assembly of the Central European Initiative along with his colleague.

Vukovic also said that his assistant stayed in Moscow, but was not detained.

“I have been defeated as a human being. They sat me in front of the border police and told me that I was persona non grata there, according to certain law. Now I am isolated in a room with some Arabs. Upon the order of the Russian state authorities, I will be sent back to Montenegro at 7:30am. This is a pure political act… I’ve never felt better, believe me,” Vukovic ironically commented on his arrest on Sunday night.
