Montenegro and Hungary have great relations and, in accordance with them, project-oriented cooperation at the local level should be more concrete, said Mayor of Podgorica, Mr Ivan Vuković, during his visit to the newly appointed mayor of Budapest, Mr Gergelj Karačonj.
Mr Vuković suggested that Podgorica should join the initiative on the cooperation with towns in the countries of the Višegrad Group. He emphasized the need for more similar initiatives that would connect towns.
Mr Karačonj supported the idea of Podgorica being part of Višegrad Group cooperation and pointed out that such connection could result in specific and concrete projects. He said Budapest and Podgorica should start working on the identification of priorities. Speaking about new trends, he noticed that big cities were shaping new progressive policies, a great opportunity for solving global problems at local level.
Mr Karačonj endorsed Montenegro’s aspiration for full-fledged EU membership and said that EU enlargement process was of paramount importance and crucial to peace and prosperity of the region.
Mr Vuković said that Hungary was Montenegro’s important partner and emphasized particular importance of air line between two towns. He acquainted mayor of Budapest with projects and reforms in Podgorica and put special emphasis re-organization of public transport system, widening green areas, employment and promotion of cycling culture.
