Chief Mufti of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Reis-ul-ulema Dr Husein Effendi Kavazović, commented on the latest events in Montenegro including the attacks on the Islamic Community in the town of Pljevlja following the parliamentary elections. He noted that no one had the right to inflict violence over people of different religion.

“Of course, it’s not up to us to define the will of the people of Montenegro. We should respect their will, as they have the right to organize their country as they find appropriate. However, no one has the right to inflict violence over people of different religion. The attack on the Islamic Community in the town of Pljevlja is a clear message of hatred for the minority community, which is not able to protect itself,” the Reis-ul-ulema told in an interview with Preporodov Journal.

He also said that they had urged the state of Montenegro to react and warned the Orthodox Church in Montenegro, being the spiritual center of those people, to do something as well, as the Church was one of the initiators of changes.

“The Reis-ul-ulema has to react when lives and property of the people are endangered by criminals whatever Balkan country is at stake. We’ll keep doing it,” he was adamant.
