Polar needs clear way within a radius of 170 sqm

While Montenegro has been preparing to welcome Polar Empress ship, equipped to conduct 3D seismic surveys of the Montenegrin submarine, several other accompanying ships are already in place, providing leaflets with the necessary requirements on the anchorage.

When the oil and gas exploration begins, the ship will be needing clear way within a radius of 170.5 square meters in order to ensure safe navigation and easy work of the sophisticated equipment for acoustic emission testing, in charge of mapping the zones with potential oil and gas supplies.

Chief officer of the Department for monitoring and control over maritime traffic within the Maritime Safety Administration, Žarko Lukšić, has confirmed for Pobjeda, a daily, that the main investigative ship is currently in Malta, and it’s expected to sail into the research zone on 14 November. The greatest danger for the seismic research, according to Lukšić, would be small vessels and the Albanian trawlers that used to turn off their monitoring system thus ignoring warnings on disturbing territorial waters.
